One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” -Hunter S. Thompson

Hommlet: The Daily Grind

In the Temple of Elemental Evil Gygax wrote “If [the heroes] need more seasoning before continuing to the greater challenges, you may – and should – design and develop other adventures in the area”. Thus, this entry in my series on Ultimate Greyhawk. Much like how comics and movies will reboot a franchise with a new take on an old concept, this is my personal re-imagining of the Greyhawk Campaign Setting beginning with the venerable town of Hommlet.

The following location is numbered based on how it appears on the map of the village of Hommlet found in T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil. You can see the rest of the entries in the Ultimate Greyhawk sidebar of the blog.

22. The Millhouse
Mytch Miller is a member of the militia and wary of strangers. He and his family are pillars of the community. His wife Ada, bakes bread for the village and together they have three children Emily, Giselle, Henry and two servants Kort and Maudie (Both in the militia). The Millhouse is guarded by a large dog named Gear. Everyone is of the Old Faith. Mytch is a member of the town council. He is as greedy as he is cowardly. It is this cowardice that prevents him from directly involving himself in nefarious dealings in the town always having some sort of proxy do his dirty work. He will never leave himself open to being called a cheat or a lair, however you can bet that he will screw anyone over given the chance. Being the only mill nearby he has amassed quite a fortune. Mytch has a personal hatred for Ostler Gundigoot (area 7). The two are rivals, though Gundigoot sees himself as in control of Mytch and the miller plays the role of a subservient lackey.

Adventure Seed: Backdoor Deals

Mytch has secretly been negotiating a deal to sell a plot of land in town to a merchant in Verbobonc who seeks to set up a new Inn in the town to compete with Ostler Gundigoot (area 7). He has been rather shifty of late, making him look like a guilty target for all sorts of misdeeds goings on around the town.

Adventure Seed: Kort’s Treasure Map

Kort has a side business selling fake treasure maps to adventurers. Most of them he made himself but he has one that’s the real deal. He will try to sell his fake maps to adventurers. These maps lead to ambushes by bandits. These bandits take a cut and Kort then gives the take to Mytch for a cut of his own.
