In the Temple of Elemental Evil Gygax wrote “If [the heroes] need more seasoning before continuing to the greater challenges, you may – and should – design and develop other adventures in the area”. The following is an entry in my series on Ultimate Greyhawk. Much like how comics and movies will reboot a franchise with a new take on an old concept, this is my personal re-imagining of the Greyhawk Campaign Setting beginning with the venerable town of Hommlet.
The following location is numbered based on how it appears on the map of the village of Hommlet found in T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil. You can see the rest of the entries in the Ultimate Greyhawk sidebar of the blog.
15. Money Changer
Nira
Melubb is the town money changer and local jeweller. Her past is an enigma.
Some speculate that she’s a former member of the thieves’ guild in Verbobonc (or
maybe she still is). Nira asks no questions and is always polite and helpful. The
money changer’s guard is Yorg, a serious fellow and has two trained guard dogs
that answer only to him not even Nira can call them off, but since she has
utter control of Yorg that’s never been a problem.
Adventure Seed: Robbery!
Furnok
of Ferd is on the run from Verbobonc Thieves guild (Area 7) as well as a local hedge
wizard. Despite all this he’s planning on robbing this joint. Furnok has
actually hidden the stuff he’s stolen and will offer it’s location if the
heroes help him rob this place or as a way to prevent them from turning him in
if he’s caught in the act. He really has a problem and compulsively steals
everything not nailed down (including the heroes stuff).
Adventure Seed: Protection Duty
Yorg
and his dogs are generally all the protection that Nira needs. Recently however
a passing merchant has left something of extreme value in the vault and Nira is
concerned that Yorg is going need back up. To complicate things Yorg prefers to
work alone and will not be accommodating to the players.
