One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” -Hunter S. Thompson

Albreck's Cartage & Transport

In the Temple of Elemental Evil Gygax wrote “If [the heroes] need more seasoning before continuing to the greater challenges, you may – and should – design and develop other adventures in the area”. Thus, this entry in my series on Ultimate Greyhawk. Much like how comics and movies will reboot a franchise with a new take on an old concept, this is my personal re-imagining of the Greyhawk Campaign Setting beginning with the venerable town of Hommlet.

The following location is numbered based on how it appears on the map of the village of Hommlet found in T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil. You can see the rest of the entries in the Ultimate Greyhawk sidebar of the blog.

14. Albreck's Cartage & Transport
Viktor Albreck is Hommlet’s Teamster. Like his son Grigory and his two drivers he is a member of the town militia and his follower of Saint Cuthbert. He lives with his wife Edreth and their five other children (Irieny, Isack, Claude, Valeria, Liza).

Viktor is one of the more vocal of the townsfolk in his dislike for the traders (Area 13). He often comments how nice it would be if a new General Store were to be opened in the town and those two creeps run out on their ears. He is an honest and hard working man.

Viktor’s two drivers Luka and Vera are like ice and fire. Luka is calm, thoughtful and cautious. He wont take risks with the goods in his care. When he drives he is always on alert for bandits and would prefer to talk his way out of trouble to drawing steel. Vera on the other hand is impulsive and rash. She speaks like she drives, fast! If she encounters bandits on the road she will plow through them if she can and lead them on a crazy chase. Vera wears driving goggles and fingerless leather gloves. She's quite the kooky character!

Adventure Seed: The Lost Wagon

Viktor has recently lost a wagon and a driver named Fin that was on its way to Verbobonc. The cargo was a recent batch of Clearwater Ale made at Hommlet’s Clearwater Brewery (Area 18). Konrad Braumeister (the proprietor of Clearwater) was understandably upset with this turn of events as was Viktor. This particular cart was ambushed by a small tribe of goblins who have take the kegs and Fin back to their lair in celebration. Both Viktor and Conrad would be willing to pay for the safe return of their property.

Adventure Seed: Road Rage!

During the last year, raids and ambushes have made the road a dangerous place. Without the assurance that the goods transported will make it safely to their destinations Viktor’s livelihood is being threatened. Viktor hires the characters as enforcers to put out the message that you don’t mess with Albreck's Cartage & Transport. Here’s an opportunity to to run a chase scene or a fantasy version of fighting on top of a train as brigands attack! During this side adventure clues may be left implicating the traders and possibly the notorious Bandit Queen from the Kron Hills.
