One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” -Hunter S. Thompson

Hell Comes to Hommlet

In the Temple of Elemental Evil Gygax wrote “If [the heroes] need more seasoning before continuing to the greater challenges, you may – and should – design and develop other adventures in the area”. Thus, this entry in my series on Ultimate Greyhawk. Much like how comics and movies will reboot a franchise with a new take on an old concept, this is my personal re-imagining of the Greyhawk Campaign Setting beginning with the venerable town of Hommlet.

The following location is numbered based on how it appears on the map of the village of Hommlet found in T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil. You can see the rest of the entries in the Ultimate Greyhawk sidebar of the blog.

27. Silvercrown Manor House
Kreon Silvercrown is Hommlet’s Village Elder and Justice of the Peace. He lives in this manor with his wife Odilya and his two married sons Theobald (his wife is Kerowyn and their three children: Selma, Talgen and Sharwyn), and Sigmund (married to Rosa and their three children: Anika, Berend and Bram). Kreon also has two daughters Petra and Ursala. The house is tended to by two servant girls Silky and Skye and a farmhand named Falko. The manor house compound can act as shelter in case the village comes under attack. The Silvercrown’s linage is tainted from Kreon’s Ur-Flan ancestors. These ancestors came under the influence of a Horned Devil (MM 74) named Belthazar. Few in the family know the truth their bloodline and that this is the true source of their wealth and power. Kreon must appease this servant of Hell, lest the familial contract be nullified and all of their souls become forfeit in the afterlife. Kreon has a pet raven named Drizyle that he is rarely seen without. This raven is actually an Imp (MM 76) and considers Kreon to be his pet. Drizyles job is watching over the family and reporting back to his true master Belthazar all that goes on in his absence.

Adventure Seed: Hell Comes to Hommlet

Kreon has in his possession a Talisman that has Belthazar’s true name on it. If this item were to fall into the wrong hands (Like the thief Furnok in area 7) all Hell could actually break loose in Hommlet.

Adventure Seed: The Trouble With Silver Spoons

The Silvercrown family could become a major pain in the ass for the party. Depending on how sinister you wish to make them they could range from mere annoyances to deadly threats. For example, perhaps the family hires the party to protect them or their estate and then makes it difficult to do their job. Or the Silvercrowns see the party as a threat to their wealth and power and try to eliminate them. One of the family members might hire the party for a job and then try to double cross them!

Adventure Seed: The Silverhawk Adventuring Company

There is a rival adventuring party in town. This group is made up of Karakas, a male human ranger from the Wild Coast; Sir Bradford, a human male paladin of Heironeous from Furyondy; Talgen, a fighter and Sharwyn, a wizard. This group will attempt to compete with other adventuring groups. How serious this rivalry becomes depends on the actions of the heroes. This group is taken from the adventuring party found in the Sunless Citadel (see Tales from the Yawning Portal hardcover by WotC).
